Bonny Downs Centenary

Over 100 years ago, Pastor Charles Howe Bonny Downs 100 years
(pictured to the right) came walking over the ‘bonny’ downs and, so the legend goes, saw 60 children running around with no shoes
on.

It was this sight that prompted him, and
others from East Ham Baptist Church,
to bring the good news of Jesus Christ
to an area with both practical, physical and spiritual
needs.

At that time, the area in this part of East Ham consisted of just four roads: Mountfield Road, Telham Road, Wellstead Road, and what was then Bonny Downs Road (now Darwell Close and Brede Close).  Bible study meetings packed out the rag shop on the corner of what is now 1 Darwell Close, and the local children were taken on outings to the seaside.

At Bonny Downs, we strive to live for Jesus Christ - our Lord and Saviour. We believe, and aim to spread, "The Good News" that Jesus is alive right here, right now, and is effective in our lives, as he is in millions of our brothers and sisters around the world today!

Bonny Downs Church has two congregations:

The Well Community Centre, (Bonny Downs South) who meet at Vicarage Lane, East Ham, London E6 6DQ, and "Bonny Downs North", who meet at Bonny Downs Church Hall in Darwell Close.

Both services start at 10.30am on a Sunday Morning and you would be very welcome to join us!

We also have a Portuguese speaking fellowship meeting led by Edmundo and Olga dos Santos from 12.30pm on Sunday in the Bonny Downs Baptist Church building (Darwell Close), to which all Portuguese speakers are more than welcome! Meetings also take place in members homes during the week. Please email Richard for more details about this service.

Church Transforming our community & our world

Welcome to The Bonny Downs Baptist Church Website

Churches come in all shapes and sizes ... and ages and colours ... because churches are people not buildings. At Bonny Downs Baptist Church we are a wide mixture of races, backgrounds and ages, but we all have one thing in common ... we love Jesus and we know he loves us! So church isn't about buildings or about religion - it's about a relationship with Jesus and enjoying his love. In fact, that's what God made us for.
